Since 1870 we’ve lived and breathed malting. With this passion and expertise, and by combining traditional and modern techniques, we create an impressive range of malted and non-malted products, including several unique and exclusive barley malts.
There is nothing more we love than talking to brewers and distillers so if you have any questions, or would like to arrange a call with a member of our team, please feel free to get in touch – we would love to hear from you!
Here at Crisp, we celebrate lovingly created craft beer and whisky all year round, but what better excuse to shout about our favourite tipples than Christmas time? With Christmas just around the corner, we’re asking the Crisp team which beer or whisky they’ll be drinking over the festive period.
My Christmas beer of choice would be a Plum Porter from Titanic or Loch Lomond. The rich, fruit-infused porter is not too heavy or too sweet, the hint of plums really gives this beer a little something extra. It’s the perfect drink for the autumn/winter months, sipping by the fire or drinking in the pub before football. It’s also great chilled in the summer, just a great all-round beer.
Chris Parker, Production Planner
Sours would be my beer of choice, Christmas time or not. The explosion of sharp, tart flavours are right up my street… although I know they are controversial in the beer industry! These beers will rock you back onto your heels during the first few swigs, after that it’s like a massive fruity party on your taste buds. Some personal favorites of mine would be the Currant Affairs brewed by Seven Bro7hers or the Pink Lemonade by Rascals.
Maddie Darrell, Marketing Manager
Turtles All The Way Down, brewed by our friends at Duration, is my go-to beer, not just at Christmas but all year round. With its wonderfully tropical flavors this IPA really hits the spot, it’s an easy drinker which cuts through a burger at the football or a big Christmas dinner. What really seals the deal for me with this great IPA, is that it’s brewed locally, and I really love supporting local businesses, especially at Christmas time!
Jodie Harvey, Marketing Manager
Tonkoko Salted Caramel Stout brewed by Brew York is my Christmas tipple of choice. Big, bold, and packed full of exciting flavours; smooth as velvet and so indulgent. This beer is luxury in a pint glass! Full bodied and great mouthfeel, you really can’t go wrong with this one at Christmas time.
Sophie Cousins, Craft Sales Operations Administrator
This Christmas I will be drinking, the 10-year anniversary collection, imperial stouts from Seven Bro7hers. These stouts are aged in whisky barrels, giving them all a unique flavour, whisky, peated whisky, and bourbon barrels from Annandale Distillery in Scotland. Enjoying a couple of these really helps keep the cold of the north out – perfect for Christmas. Everything about the Imperial Stout collection is top quality and a real treat during the festive season.
Mike Benson, UK Brewing Sales Manager
Brewed down the road by our pals at Barsham Brewery, this session bitter is what I will be enjoying on Christmas Day. The Norfolk Topper by Barsham Brewery is an easy drinker with citrus flavours, not my usual choice, but lovely for Christmas to cut through the cheeseboards and yummy treats. It’s easy to see why this is a multiple award-winning beer! I also love nothing more than a dark beer. So, the top-class coffee stout from Badger Brewery, Master Stoat, will be another choice this Christmas. A perfect ending to a busy festive day!
Rebecca Gee, Grain Procurement Director
Session IPA’s all the way, but this one is top of the Christmas tree for me. Refreshing and zingy it’s got everything I want from a beer. And it’s brewed just down the road! Tom Cat by The Fat Cat Brewery is definitely my choice of drink this Christmas!
Leon Smith, Production Manager
Ambir, a single malt whisky from Holyrood Distillery, will be my tipple this festive season. Using four of our specialty malts Chocolate, Vienna, Crystal 240 and Cara Malt, this whisky really stands out amongst the crowd. The gorgeous, velvet-smooth textures are so satisfying; a couple of these by the fire on Christmas night really sums up what the festive period is all about. The Distillery Manager at Holyrood Distillery describes this whisky perfectly, saying, “It’s a love letter to those sweet, Scottish taste buds. This one is to relish – sit down, digest and appreciate everything that’s going on. And if you have a wee bit of a sweet tooth – you might have to have someone on hand to prise it away from you!”.
Colin Johnston, Sales & Marketing Director
We hope you enjoyed learning about some of the teams’ favourite Christmas beers, and we hope that you are able to find the time this Christmas to enjoy some for yourself! We always love to support craft brewers and will continue to do so over the Christmas period – we hope you do too. Merry Crisp-mas and a Happy New Year!
