Since 1870 we’ve lived and breathed malting. With this passion and expertise, and by combining traditional and modern techniques, we create an impressive range of malted and non-malted products, including several unique and exclusive barley malts.
There is nothing more we love than talking to brewers and distillers so if you have any questions, or would like to arrange a call with a member of our team, please feel free to get in touch – we would love to hear from you!
Steph Brindley brings a unique blend of scientific expertise and real-world brewing experience to her role, where she’ll be guiding brewers on how to get the best out of their beers – especially when it comes to the malts they’re using.
Steph’s journey in brewing began with a strong academic foundation: she holds a BSc in Microbiology, an MRes in Bioenergy, and a PhD in Brewing Science, where her research focused on the intricate biology of fermentation.
Alongside her academic work, Steph gained hands-on experience as a brewer at Round Corner Brewing, giving her valuable insight into brewhouse operations. She then went on to work in technical management at Murphy and Son, where she developed a consultative, science-led approach to supporting brewers; from recipe development and problem-solving to understanding the chemistry behind beer stability.
At Crisp Malt, Steph’s role centres on helping brewers refine their processes, improve their brews, and optimise malt use, as well as offering guidance on malt storage solutions, milling insights, and more. With her blend of technical depth and practical brewing know-how, she’s a great addition to our team.
Outside of work, Steph enjoys spending time with her family, exploring the outdoors with her dog, and occasionally indulging in a good board game or music festival when she’s not thinking about the science of great beer.
