Crisp Table Beer Recipe

  • Rounded body with floral citrus hops
  • ABV 2.5%
  • IBU 20
  • OG 1031 SG

Table Beer is a traditional low ABV beer style designed for everyday drinking, offering a refreshing balance of malt character, gentle hop bitterness, and exceptional drinkability. This homebrew recipe uses premium Crisp brewing malts to create a flavorful beer without the higher alcohol content.

Table Beer recipes can be a tricky recipe to get right. They can often end up very thin and lacking in mouthfeel. The key is to have lots of non-fermentable sugars to add body to the beer, which is exactly what this hefty addition of Dextrin Malt achieves. We’ve also added great drinkability by utilising a range of fruit forward American aroma hops.

Mike'S TOP TIP

Mashing slightly thicker (2.2:1) with a higher temperature will reduce the amount of fermentable sugar which will help control ABV and give body to the beer.

Malts used in this Recipe

Dextrin Malt

Dextrin Malt is produced by carefully controlling the germination phase, allowing higher molecular weight polysaccharides to be retained. These naturally occurring dextrins help improve beer body, mouthfeel, and foam stability, contributing to a fuller, more rounded finished beer. These dextrins will contribute positively to head formation.

Dextrin Malt is particularly well suited to recipes using well-modified Extra Pale Malt for brewing golden ales or pilsner-style beers. Its low color allows inclusion rates of up to 15% without significantly affecting the finished beer’s color. It is also an excellent choice for lower-gravity styles, such as Session IPAs, where additional body and mouthfeel help create the impression of a higher-gravity beer.
