Founded by Bill Russell, Equal Brewkery is more than a place of production—it serves as a supportive environment where people with learning disabilities can develop new skills and gain confidence. Over the years, we’ve been thrilled to watch Equal Brewkery’s team expand and thrive, and we feel honored to be part of their story.
Bill Russel shares, “Equal Brewkery has been supported by Crisp Malt for the last few years. They were keen to help our social enterprise which supports adults with learning disabilities. Equal Brewkery is a micro bakery and brewery which teaches skills knowledge and understanding to our customers in the hope that it may put them on the path to employment. Crisp Malt regularly supplies us with malted barley and we benefit not only from their expertise but also the excellent quality of malt they provide. The bonus for us is that it makes superb beer. We cannot say thank you enough to Crisp Malt.”
In 2023, Danni, our Inside Sales Representative, and Maddie, our Marketing Manager, had the chance to visit Equal Brewkery for a day of hands-on experience. The pair spent their time meeting the team, getting to know the participants, and learning the intricate process of bottling beer—an experience that was new to them both!
Reflecting on the visit, Maddie shared, “It was such a lovely day, getting to know the participants, understanding their backgrounds, and learning how to bottle beer—which I’d never done before then! Bill Russell has created something so special, a safe and welcoming space for people to build their confidence and learn new skills. I feel really proud that Crisp Malt is involved in this wonderful project.”
As we continue to provide malt to Equal Brewkery, Crisp Malt is excited about what the future holds. Recently, Equal Brewkery opened a new site at Whitlingham Country Park, where they have established a new brewery in a refurbished storage container. This expansion marks an exciting new chapter for the organization, and we look forward to seeing how they continue to grow, inspire, and create a lasting impact on the lives of those involved. We are committed to supporting Equal Brewkery for many years to come.
