Since 1870 we’ve lived and breathed malting. With this passion and expertise, and by combining traditional and modern techniques, we create an impressive range of malted and non-malted products, including several unique and exclusive barley malts.
There is nothing more we love than talking to brewers and distillers so if you have any questions, or would like to arrange a call with a member of our team, please feel free to get in touch – we would love to hear from you!
It's been an amazing event

Another BeerX is complete! BeerX 2024 has been a great one.
Our team headed to Liverpool on Tuesday 12th March to get our stand built, ready for the expo on Wednesday. Pitched up next to our friends at Charles Faram, we had our bar set and samples ready to go, all that was left to do was switch on the lights and wait for people to come pouring in. If you attended SIBA’s BeerX this year, we’re sure you’ll agree that it was a busy event with excellent footfall and full of awesome brewers, suppliers, and beer people. The event was bustling, and outstanding beer was certainly flowing!
On our stand, we were proudly pouring Red Willow Brewery’s West Coast IPA, Timeless. This beer was brewed with the support of our Technical Sales Manager, Mike Benson, a few weeks before, using our wonderful heritage malt, Chevallier, teamed up with Maris Otter. To say this was popular would be an understatement – we quickly had to get a second keg for Day 2!! We may be biased, but this beer was the star of the show, highlighting the excellent qualities our Heritage Malts bring to a beer. The team at Red Willow joined us on the stand for a cheers to their incredible creation. To read more about the brew, you can read this blog. As well as the West Coast IPA from Red Willow, we poured the wonderful Hen Harrier, by Bowland Brewery, a spectacular Golden Pale Ale, delivering refreshingly light citrus flavours, using our Maris Otter malt.
Alongside some wonderful beers, we had our team of experts on the stand, sharing their malting and brewing knowledge as well as some friendly banter. We had our Technical Team, Sarah and Mike, our Sales Team, Nigel, Colin, and Steve, and our Operations Team, Luke and Laura, looking after things. We hope our team were able to answer any questions you had and that you were able to enjoy a beer on us. We also loved seeing some of you rocking your Crisp Malt socks! See below some of our favourites.
“Last week, I was reminded that 4 years ago at BeerX we were all cautiously bumping elbows while discussing this novel coronavirus thing. It was the week after that we all moved indoors for the best part of 2 years. Little did we know what would ensue and the very real heartache that would befall our customers. The intervening years have been a real struggle, and we are still not fully through the effects of covid as an industry however, this year’s BeerX is the first since 2019 that I felt a great sense of optimism. The footfall was high, people had a spring in their step and there was a growing light at the end of the tunnel. There is nothing to beat BeerX for connecting with our customers and friends in the UK craft beer scene. Our industry is one that thrives on the social side, so it was great to see some genuine positivity about the future” – Colin Johnston, Sales & Marketing Director at Crisp Malt.
“2024 was my first ever BeerX so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, I was very excited to get there and get going. Initially I was overwhelmed by the scale of the exhibition and volumes of brewers, but you see some familiar faces and have some lively chats, and the day entirely escapes you! The stand was heaving! I am gutted that I didn’t manage to speak to everyone (and gutted that I haven’t experienced one of Crisp’s legendary afterparties yet!), but I was very proud to be working for Crisp that day, with loads of engaging conversations and advice shared. The passion and enthusiasm that craft brewers have is infectious and you can only leave an event like this on a high.” – Sarah Marshall, Technical Sales Manager at Crisp Malt.
2024 was the first BeerX event I have attended. It was a great opportunity to meet existing customers and put faces to the names I chat to over the telephone and via email. What I loved most about Beer X is seeing how our customers all interact with each other, meeting up like old friends and discussing future collaborations. It really hit home what a fantastic and friendly industry this is to work in and be a part of. – Laura Biddulph, Craft Sales Operations Administrator at Crisp Malt.
“What a fantastic event. Candidly, the mood around the industry is shifting. Though the road remains unbelievably tough, there’s a surge of positivity. Brewers are buzzing with discussions about crafting new beers and enhancing their craft.” – Mike Benson, Technical Sales Manager at Crisp Malt.
We are always proud to see our customers shining and that’s exactly what we saw on Thursday evening, where loads of our customers won awards at the SIBA National Independent BeerX Awards. We want to say a huge congratulations to you all and seriously well deserved. See below which of our customers won!
As ever, there is nothing better than being part of an industry where we can all come together in one space to share our passion and love for beer and the ingredients that make it. Sharing a few fun days with the teams at Charles Farams, Murphy & Sons, and others, makes it even easier. We always look forward to coming together at BeerX and can’t wait to see you all there next year.
Cheers to an incredible event and thank you to SIBA for organising it!
