Meet Neville. This truly remarkable man has been working his magic (expert knowledge and skill!) with your malt for the past 48 years, here at Crisp Malt.
We thought however much he’d enjoyed it, after more than 10,000 days of his life spent in the maltings, he just might have had enough. Wrong. And we’re delighted to be wrong.
Neville knows everything there is to know about floor malting. He has a role to play in character. The character of the drinks you produce, that is. Aroma, flavour, mouthfeel, body, aftertaste. All are influenced by the quality of the barley grain; by the malting process; and by Neville’s hand in it. Or the hand of one of the next generation of floor maltsters, coached at least in part by the man himself.
Your beer. Your whisky. Your ‘provenance’ story. It has all the right ingredients for a great story. As it comes from us. And if you use our floor malt, you’ll have had the exquisite taste of Neville’s handiwork.
Neville reckons he’s cycled 50,000 miles in the course of getting to work and back. And he’s even taken a holiday in Japan to visit one of the distilleries that buys the floor malted Maris Otter he is so proud to have produced.
